3 Steps On How To Incorporate More FUN In Life

How To Incorporate More Fun In Life In 3 Easy StepsHave we forgotten what it’s like to have fun in life?  As much as it is important to manage and balance your life properly with all the necessary things we need to get done, it’s JUST as important to make sure we incorporate fun in life as well.  ESPECIALLY if “Fun & Enjoyment” has been de-prioritized to the bottom of the list over the years.

“What? Fun?? Enjoyment??  I can’t afford to have that right now…I have too many obligations, responsibilities, (fill in the rest with your favorite excuse)”

Too easily have we been conditioned out of the prioritizing this ever so important energy and creativity source out of our lives thinking that it has no place in helping us become more productive and successful in things that we do.

Physiologically, our brain THRIVES on fun.  Research indicates that when we are having fun, we develop new neural cells in areas devoted to learning and memory.  Playing and having fun engages the creative side of your brain and increases your brain power.  When you’re fully engaged in play,  you lose some of your psychological barriers and stop censoring or editing your thoughts.  This then increases productivity, creativity, and innovation.

“Wow! So how do I do that?? My days are so packed with everything else in life…I don’t have time for ‘fun’…”

Fret not!  We have included to following steps JUST for that purpose.

The 3 Steps On How To Have More FUN In Life:

Step #1: Define What “FUN” Actually IS For You

First of all, there is no point in having fun and enjoyment that is defined by other people but not what you would personally consider fun.  Everybody has their own unique definition of what “fun” actually is in their lives.  And you are no different.  Most of the time, when we don’t CLEARLY DEFINE what is fun for our own selves, we end up defaulting to time-wasting activities to fill in the gaps in our lives when we actually have time and energy to have some real fun.

Start by making a simple bullet pointed list of activities that you would consider fun.  For the sake of example for the rest of this post, we’ll refer the following list as an example:

  • Go see a movie
  • Read a book
  • Practice singing
  • Bake
  • Walk on the beach with significant other or friends
  • Have friends over for dinner and drinks

Step #2:  Decide When And Where To Put These Activities In

Start categorizing and grouping where and when these activities can be done in your DAILY schedule.  Yes, it is crucial to incorporate elements of fun in your daily life.  Ever have a particularly frustrating and long day that was “no fun”?  Look back and see if you had made any conscious effort to have fun at one point.  So let’s see what that can look like with our example:

Week night after work activities

  • Read a book
  • Bake
  • Practice Singing

Weekend fun activities

  • Go see a movie
  • Have friends over for dinner and drinks
  • Walk on the beach with significant other or friends

Make it a point to do at least on of the fun things on your list everyday.

Step #3: Make It Easy On Yourself To Do The Fun Things

If you find yourself not being very good at this game of having more fun in life, no worries!  We can strengthen those “fun muscles” by making things as easy as possible.  Start incorporating habits that make having easy to do!  Check out the examples below.

Week night after work activities

  • Read a book (Always carry a book or an e-reader with you wherever you go)
  • Bake (Choose a specific day of the week where you will choose a new recipe to try)
  • Practice Singing (Make a ritual to learn and practice a new song once a week and do it every night before going to bed)

Weekend fun activities

  • Go see a movie (Join a movie social group…like a book club…that watches movies regularly)
  • Have friends over for dinner and drinks (At the beginning of every week, invite friends to come over on Friday or Saturday)
  • Walk on the beach with significant other or friends (Go to the beach every Sunday morning)

By incorporating more fun into your life and by including those you care about in your journey, you will find that life will elevate once again with a more balance.  Enjoy!

As always, if you found this helpful…Comment & Share so that others that you care about can take advantage as well!
